I know I’ve been posting some weird acoustic instruments lately but this thing is a beast! No electricity needed, generating sounds through natural source coded materials which are membrane, coiled spring and string. The latter work together to create this mystical resonating sound that one wouldn’t usually expect from plucked coil.

Tan Dun – The Map (8/9 “Tongue Singing”)

The Map is a 55 minute orchestral piece by Chinese composer Tan Dun. The piece was originally created in 2002 for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who performed the piece a year later in Massachusetts featuring renown cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The performance made it’s way around the world but came to a halt after it’s most recent show in Amsterdam just over a year ago. It was recommended to me by one of my professors.. I watched the entire performance but the segment above stood out to me the most.
